Management and leadership
Management is getting things done through people — planning, organising, coordinating, commanding and controlling (Fayol). Leadership is about setting a vision and inspiring people to follow it. A good manager is not always a good leader and vice versa.
Mintzberg described managerial roles in three groups: interpersonal (figurehead, leader, liaison), informational (monitor, disseminator, spokesperson) and decisional (entrepreneur, disturbance handler, resource allocator, negotiator).
