The Circle

12 min read

The equation of a circle, finding the centre and radius, and tangents and chords.

Equation of a circle

(x−a)2+(y−b)2=r2(x-a)^2+(y-b)^2=r^2(x−a)2+(y−b)2=r2 centre (a,b)(a,b)(a,b), radius rrr. From the expanded form x2+y2+2gx+2fy+c=0x^2+y^2+2gx+2fy+c=0x2+y2+2gx+2fy+c=0, complete the square to find the centre and radius.
