Magnetic Fields & Electromagnetic Induction

15 min read

Magnetic flux density, the motor effect, forces on charges, magnetic flux, and Faraday's and Lenz's laws.

The motor effect

A current-carrying wire in a magnetic field experiences a force: F=BILsin⁡θF = BIL\sin\thetaF=BILsinθ (BBB = flux density in tesla). Direction by Fleming's left-hand rule (thumb = force/motion, first finger = field, second finger = current).
