Statistics & Probability

15 min read

Averages, grouped data and cumulative frequency, plus probability with tree diagrams — including without-replacement problems.

The final chapter handles data and chance — both reliable sources of marks with clear methods.

Averages and spread

  • Mean =sumhow many= \dfrac{\text{sum}}{\text{how many}}=how manysum; median = middle value (in order); mode = most common; range = highest − lowest.
  • From a grouped table, estimate the mean using the midpoint of each class: mean =∑fx∑f= \dfrac{\sum fx}{\sum f}=∑f∑fx.
