The systems development life cycle (SDLC)

A structured approach to building IT systems:

  1. Feasibility study — is the project worthwhile (technically, economically, legally)?
  2. Analysis — investigate the current system and gather requirements.
  3. Design — plan inputs, processes, outputs, data and interface.
  4. Implementation — build, test and install.
  5. Testing — check it meets requirements.
  6. Maintenance — fix and improve after launch.
