The systems development life cycle: analysis, design, implementation, testing and maintenance.
New IT systems are built using a structured process — the systems development life cycle (SDLC).
The stages
- Analysis: investigate the current system and gather requirements (interviews, questionnaires, observation).
- Design: plan inputs, outputs, data structures, the interface and test plan.
- Implementation (build): create the system and convert/transfer the data.
- Testing: check it meets requirements (normal, boundary and erroneous data).
- Maintenance: fix errors and adapt the system over time.
