The circulatory system transports substances around the body.

Blood

  • Red blood cells: carry oxygen (haemoglobin); no nucleus; biconcave.
  • White blood cells: defend against pathogens.
  • Platelets: clot the blood.
  • Plasma: carries dissolved CO₂, nutrients, hormones, urea and heat.
