The Nervous System & the Eye

12 min read

Neurones and the reflex arc, synapses, and the structure and function of the eye.

The nervous system

The central nervous system (brain and spinal cord) and nerves coordinate fast responses. Receptors detect stimuli; impulses travel along neurones to effectors.

A reflex arc is fast and automatic: receptor → sensory neurone → relay neurone (CNS) → motor neurone → effector. At a synapse, a chemical neurotransmitter carries the signal across the gap.
