Fractions, Decimals & Percentages

15 min read

Calculating with fractions, converting between forms, percentage change, reverse percentages and compound interest.

Fractions, decimals and percentages are three ways of writing the same thing; fluent conversion between them is essential.

Calculating with fractions

  • Add/subtract: use a common denominator.
  • Multiply: multiply numerators and denominators, then simplify.
  • Divide: multiply by the reciprocal (flip the second fraction).
  • Convert mixed numbers to improper fractions first.
