Elements, compounds and mixtures

    An element contains only one type of atom (e.g. oxygen, iron).
    A compound is two or more elements chemically combined in fixed proportions (e.g. water, H2OH_2OH2​O).
    A mixture contains substances not chemically combined, in any proportion, separable by physical means.
