Respiration, Gas Exchange & Coordination

15 min read

Aerobic and anaerobic respiration, the breathing system and gas exchange, and nervous and hormonal coordination including the reflex arc.

Aerobic respiration

Aerobic respiration releases energy from glucose using oxygen, in the mitochondria:

C6H12O6+6O2→6CO2+6H2OC_6H_{12}O_6 + 6O_2 \rightarrow 6CO_2 + 6H_2OC6H12O6+6O2→6CO2+6H2O

(glucose + oxygen → carbon dioxide + water), releasing a large amount of energy.
