Reaction Kinetics

16 min read

Collision theory, the effect of conditions, the Boltzmann distribution, catalysts, rate equations, orders, the rate-determining step and the Arrhenius idea.

Collision theory

A reaction occurs when particles collide with energy ≥\geq≥ the activation energy EaE_aEa and in the correct orientation. Rate increases with concentration/pressure (more frequent collisions), temperature (more frequent and more energetic collisions — the dominant effect), surface area, and a catalyst.
