Data Compression & Encryption

Lossless and lossy compression, run-length encoding, symmetric and asymmetric (public-key) encryption, and digital certificates and signatures.

Why compress data?

Compression reduces the number of bits used to store or transmit a file. Benefits: less storage space, faster downloads/uploads and less bandwidth. There are two families: lossless and lossy.
