Respiration

12 min read

Aerobic and anaerobic respiration, the word equations, and gas exchange surfaces.

Respiration releases energy from glucose in every living cell. It is not the same as breathing.

Aerobic respiration

Uses oxygen and releases a lot of energy: glucose+oxygen→carbon dioxide+water (+energy)\text{glucose} + \text{oxygen} \rightarrow \text{carbon dioxide} + \text{water} \ (+\text{energy})glucose+oxygen→carbon dioxide+water (+energy)
