Keeping a constant internal environment: blood glucose, temperature, and the kidneys.
Homeostasis keeps the body's internal conditions stable despite changes outside.
Blood glucose control
The pancreas monitors blood glucose:
- Too high → insulin is released → cells (especially the liver) take up glucose → level falls.
- Too low → glucagon is released → the liver releases glucose → level rises.
In type 1 diabetes the pancreas makes too little insulin, so it must be injected.
