Pythagoras & Trigonometry

16 min read

Pythagoras' theorem, SOHCAHTOA in right-angled triangles, exact trig values, angles of elevation/depression and bearings.

Pythagoras' theorem

For a right-angled triangle with hypotenuse ccc: a2+b2=c2a^2 + b^2 = c^2a2+b2=c2 Use it to find a missing side. To find a shorter side, subtract: a=c2−b2a=\sqrt{c^2-b^2}a=c2−b2.

b a c
Right-angled triangle: a² + b² = c² (c is the hypotenuse)
