Solids, Liquids & Gases

13 min read

Density and pressure, pressure in liquids, the particle model and the gas laws.

The behaviour of matter depends on how its particles are arranged and move.

Density

ρ=mV\rho = \frac{m}{V}ρ=Vm

Worked example. A 0.50.50.5 kg block of volume 2×10−42 \times 10^{-4}2×10−4 m³ has density ρ=0.52×10−4=2500\rho = \dfrac{0.5}{2\times10^{-4}} = 2500ρ=2×10−40.5=2500 kg m⁻³.
