Characteristics of living organisms (MRS GREN)

All living organisms share seven characteristics: Movement, Respiration, Sensitivity, Growth, Reproduction, Excretion and Nutrition.

Movement — an action causing a change of position or place.
Respiration — chemical reactions in cells that break down nutrient molecules to release energy.
Sensitivity — detecting and responding to changes in the environment.
Growth — a permanent increase in size and dry mass.
Reproduction — making more of the same kind of organism.
Excretion — removal of the waste products of metabolism and substances in excess.
Nutrition — taking in materials for energy, growth and development.
