Experimental Techniques & Chemical Analysis

14 min read

Measurement, separation methods, criteria of purity, and tests for ions and gases.

Measurement and purity

Volume is measured with a measuring cylinder, pipette or burette; time with a stopclock; temperature with a thermometer; mass with a balance. A pure substance has a sharp, fixed melting/boiling point; impurities lower the melting point and raise the boiling point (and make them less sharp).
