Stoichiometry & the Mole

14 min read

Relative atomic and formula mass, the mole, balancing equations, and calculations of mass and reacting quantities.

Relative masses

Relative atomic mass (ArA_rAr) — the average mass of an atom compared with 112\tfrac{1}{12}121 of a carbon-12 atom.
    Relative formula/molecular mass (MrM_rMr) — the sum of the ArA_rAr values in a formula. For example, MrM_rMr of H2O=(2×1)+16=18H_2O = (2\times1) + 16 = 18H2O=(2×1)+16=18.
