Algebra: Expressions & Manipulation

14 min read

Simplifying, expanding brackets, factorising, algebraic fractions and changing the subject of a formula.

Simplifying and collecting like terms

Add or subtract like terms only: 3a+5a−2=8a−23a + 5a - 2 = 8a - 23a+5a−2=8a−2. Multiply terms by multiplying coefficients and adding indices: 2x2×3x3=6x52x^2 \times 3x^3 = 6x^52x2×3x3=6x5.
