16 min read

Pythagoras' theorem, SOHCAHTOA, the sine and cosine rules, area of a triangle, bearings and 3D problems.

Pythagoras' theorem

In a right-angled triangle, the square of the hypotenuse equals the sum of the squares of the other two sides:

a2+b2=c2a^2 + b^2 = c^2a2+b2=c2

where ccc is the hypotenuse (opposite the right angle).

b a c (hyp) θ
A right-angled triangle labelled for Pythagoras and SOHCAHTOA (hypotenuse c, sides a and b).
