Sets and notation

A set is a collection of objects (its elements). Cambridge uses this notation:

A∪BA \cup BA∪Bunion — elements in AAA or BBB (or both)
A∩BA \cap BA∩Bintersection — elements in both AAA and BBB
A′A'A′complement — elements not in AAA

b∉Ab \notin Ab∈/Abbb is not an element of AAA
∅\varnothing∅the empty set
A⊆BA \subseteq BA⊆BAAA is a subset of BBB
n(A)n(A)n(A)the number of elements in AAA
