Homeostasis and negative feedback
Homeostasis is the maintenance of a constant internal environment. It relies on negative feedback: a receptor detects a deviation, a coordinator processes it, and an effector returns the value toward the set point. A stable internal environment keeps enzymes near their optimum and cells independent of external change.
