Photosynthesis

17 min read

The light-dependent and light-independent stages, chloroplast structure, limiting factors and chromatography.

Chloroplast structure and function

The chloroplast is the site of photosynthesis. Thylakoid membranes (stacked as grana) hold the photosystems and electron carriers for the light-dependent stage; the surrounding stroma is the site of the light-independent stage (Calvin cycle). The large surface area of thylakoids holds many photosynthetic pigments.
