Computing ethics and professional conduct, copyright and intellectual property, software licensing, and the impact of computing on society.
Ethics in computing
Ethics are moral principles about what is right and wrong. Computing professionals should act with honesty, competence, confidentiality and respect for others. Professional bodies (e.g. the BCS and ACM) publish codes of conduct that members agree to follow, covering things like avoiding harm, respecting privacy, declaring conflicts of interest and only working within one's competence.
Examples of ethical issues: misuse of personal data, surveillance, algorithmic bias, the digital divide, and the responsible disclosure of security flaws.
