Eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells, the main organelles, the fluid-mosaic membrane, and transport across membranes.
Cells are the basic unit of life. Their organelles and membranes control what enters and leaves.
Organelles
- Nucleus — contains DNA; controls the cell.
- Mitochondria — site of aerobic respiration (ATP).
- Ribosomes — protein synthesis.
- Rough ER — transports proteins; smooth ER — makes lipids.
- Golgi apparatus — modifies and packages proteins.
- Chloroplasts (plants) — photosynthesis.
Prokaryotes (bacteria) are smaller, have no nucleus or membrane-bound organelles, and have a cell wall of peptidoglycan.
