Coordination: Nervous & Hormonal

13 min read

The nervous system and reflex arc, the eye, and hormonal coordination including a comparison of the two systems.

The nervous system

Made of the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord) and nerves. Receptors detect stimuli; impulses travel along neurones to effectors (muscles/glands).

A reflex arc gives a fast, automatic response: receptor → sensory neurone → relay neurone (CNS) → motor neurone → effector. A synapse is a gap between neurones where a chemical neurotransmitter carries the signal across.
