The nervous system

The nervous system is the central nervous system (brain + spinal cord) and the peripheral nerves. Three neurone types: sensory (receptor → CNS), relay (within CNS) and motor (CNS → effector). Electrical impulses travel along neurones; at a synapse a chemical (neurotransmitter) carries the signal across the gap to the next neurone.
