How ICT affects employment, leisure and society, the digital divide, microprocessor-controlled devices, and health and safety risks at the computer.
Effects on employment and society
ICT has changed how people work, communicate and spend leisure time.
Employment — some jobs are lost (e.g. routine/manual tasks now automated), but new jobs are created (e.g. network managers, web designers, technicians). Working patterns have changed: teleworking/working from home, flexible hours and online collaboration.
Effects of teleworking — for employees: saves commuting time/cost, flexible hours, but isolation and harder to separate work/home. For employers: lower office costs, but harder to manage staff and ensure security.
Society and leisure — online shopping, banking, social networking, streaming and gaming; easier access to information and communication, but risks of less face-to-face contact, addiction and misinformation.
