Types of network
LAN (Local Area Network) — covers a small area (one building/site), e.g. a school or office.
WLAN (Wireless LAN) — a LAN that uses Wi-Fi instead of cables.
WAN (Wide Area Network) — covers a large geographical area and connects LANs together, often using third-party communication lines; the internet is the largest WAN.
