Safety, e-Safety & Data Protection Laws

12 min read

Keeping personal data safe online, e-safety when using email, social media and games, and the principles of data protection legislation.

Personal data

Personal data is data about a living, identifiable person (name, address, date of birth, photographs, medical/financial details). Sensitive personal data includes ethnicity, religion, political views, health and criminal record — it needs extra protection.

Personal data must be protected because, if misused, it can lead to identity theft, fraud, embarrassment or harm.
