The greenhouse effect and evidence for climate change, effects on organisms and distribution, and the temperature coefficient Q10.
Rising atmospheric greenhouse gases (mainly carbon dioxide and methane) trap outgoing heat, raising global temperatures — the enhanced greenhouse effect. Human causes include combustion of fossil fuels and deforestation (less CO₂ removed by photosynthesis).
Evidence
- Direct temperature records show recent warming.
- CO₂ concentration (e.g. ice-core bubbles) correlates with temperature over time.
- Dendrochronology (tree rings) and pollen in peat indicate past climates.
Be ready to interpret data and discuss the reliability of evidence and the difference between correlation and proven cause.
