The human gas-exchange system, the alveoli and their adaptations, and the principles of efficient exchange surfaces.

Organisms must exchange gases with their environment. In mammals this happens in the lungs.

The pathway of air

Air travels: trachea → bronchi → bronchioles → alveoli (tiny air sacs where gas exchange occurs).
